Concept Jiu-Jitsu is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy based in Haywards Heath, Mid-Sussex.Our BJJ (gi and no-gi) programme is led by Head Coach, William Setz-Dempsey, an experienced black belt with over 15 years martial arts experience.

William Setz-Dempsey
William Setz-Dempsey has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a decade, focusing the first six years on mixed martial arts, racking up a number of wins.For the latter part of his grappling career he decided to solely focus on jiu-jitsu and competing as much as possible. He developed an avid passion for teaching as well as training.In 2021 Will was awarded his black belt by coach and mentor Roger Gracie black belt Cesar Lima. He continues to compete as much as possible whilst focusing on growing a strong team at Concept Jiu-Jitsu.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) traces its origins to 1914, where it was developed from Japanese jujutsu and judo player Mitsuyo Maeda.Maeda introduced these techniques to Carlos and Hélio Gracie in São Paulo, who then adapted and refined the sequences to focus on leverage over brute strength, making it effective for smaller practitioners.Over time, BJJ evolved into a global martial art and sport, renowned for its ground-fighting techniques and influence on modern mixed martial arts (MMA).

Welcoming everyone from kids as young as 7 to hobbyist professionals, ex-Team GB athletes and amateur competitors.With classes available throughout the week and weekend mornings, followed by Open Mat sessions and private 1-on-1 sessions available.
